To-do list after a fresh installation of Windows
When installing windows keep in mind that only a few seconds after you've set-up you're internet connection, viruses may allready be installing themselves on your computer. To prevent unnecessary infections this guide will help you prepare your computer before connecting to the internet.
Before installing windows make sure you've got the following things checked/at hand:
- The Windows XP installation disc
- The Windows XP ServicePack (SP) 2 cd, or the downloaded SP2, you can get the downloadable SP2 here
- Antivirus software, supplied on cd or downloaded. When unsure about which software to use or when you're looking for antivirus software take a look at the articles on this site. Do NOT install more then one virusscanner. Why?
- A Firewall, though a firewall is implemented in Windows XP. When unsure about which software to use or when you're looking for a firewall take a look at the articles on this site. Do NOT install more then one firewall. Why?
- Before installation, unplug your internet connection by removing the cable which goes to your modem. Do NOT connect the cable untill asked so in this tutorial. connecting before you're secure can cause your computer to be infected
- Finally, print this tutorial because it will take a few more steps before you're computer is protected good enough to connect to the internet
