To-do list after a fresh installation of Windows
Assuming the installation succeeded without any fatal errors, let's continue with the installation of Service Pack (SP) 2 when at hand. When you haven't got the SP2 cd, goto the next step.
Note: When SP2 is integrated into you're windows installation you can skip this step.
- Let windows install any found hardware and reboot
- Insert the disc containing ServicePack 2
- Goto start->run->browse
- Browse to you're cd/dvd drive
- Select the file called WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe->ok->ok
- SP2 will now be installed, when asked to create a system restore point, deny, this is not necessary, since this is a clean installation of windows, there's nothing to backup
- Sit back and relax, this will take anywhere between 15 minutes to two hours, depending on your configuration
- When confronted with the Security Center enable both autoupdate and the windows firewall
- After finishing the installation the setup wizard asks you to restart the computer, reply positively
Note: Most problems people experience when installing SP2 occur because a lot of software is allready installed. Installing SP2 on a 'clean' system will reduce the chance on fatal errors.
