Microsoft Antispyware / Windows Defender
Microsoft antispyware is still in it's beta an has undergone a change of name at nov. 4 2005. The program is now known as Windows Defender. The program incorperates several usefull features but has it's downsides being, mostly, 'overprotection'. when scanning your computer your default internetpage will be changed to the one of microsoft, since almost all other pages are 'recognized' as malicious.
The program provides you with an overview of BHO's, the windows 'hosts'-file, activex components and windows LSP's. It shows known malware als 'potentially unwanted', safe components as 'known' and everything else as 'unknown'. Unknown isn't a good description I think, this way the user will, after scanning, not know what to do..... For this reason I don't reccomend this program to beginners.
Download (Minimum system Requirements: Win2000/XP/2003 (or Vista))
Features:
- Scans for BHO's, ActiveX components etc.
- Allows you to restore the Internet Explorer default settings
- Allows you to erase the history of opened files, sites you visited etc.
Note: Antispy is still a BETA, so there can be bugs in the program
