Collection of Usefull tools

Below is a collection of tools usefull when removing spy-/adware

AdsSpy: By Merijn. A small tool to list, view or delete Alternate Data Streams (ADS) on Windows 2000/XP with NTFS file systems. ADS is a way of storing meta-information for files without actually storing the information in the file it belongs to, carried over from early MacOS compatibility from Windows NT4. Recently browser hijackers began using this technique to store hidden information on the system, and even store trojan executable files in ADS streams of random files on the system. Use with caution.

Brute Force Uninstaller: By Merijn. BFU is a scripting program that can execute a series of preset commands like a Windows batch file, aimed at uninstalled programs that are hard to remove, uninstall improperly or simply unwanted. Scripts are plaintext and can be written with Notepad, and the command syntax is very transparent. Manual

CCleaner: By Piriform. Erase cookies, surfing history, file history, recent documents opened, etc. Be CAREFULL: when installing deselect 'Yahoo toolbar' option

CoolWWWSearch killer: Use this tool when CWShredder (see below) cannot remove the CoolWebSearch infection

CwShredder: By Merijn. Removes most CoolWebSearch variants. These variants change your default startpage, your searchengine etc.

IBProcMan: By Merijn. Shows full paths to processes, optionally shows DLLs loaded by processes. Can save the process list (and dll list) to file, as well as copy it to the clipboard

Hostsfile: By MVPS. You can use a HOSTS file to block ads, banners, cookies, 3rd party page counters, web bugs, and even most hijackers. This is accomplished by blocking the Server that supplies these little gems

IE-Spyad: Stops unwanted software installation by websites, hijacking of your homepage, stops scripting, blocks cookies and stops popupsprees

Killbox: Allows you to delete files on reboot, stubborn files which cannot be deleted in any other way

LSP-Fix: LSP-Fix is a free utility to repair a specific type of problem associated with certain Internet software. This type of software is known as a Layered Service Provider or LSP, a piece of software that can be inserted into the Windows TCP/IP handler like a link in a chain. However, due to bugs in the LSP software or deletion of the software, this chain can get broken, rendering the user unable to access the Internet. Manual
