Problem: Scandisk and/or Defrag freeze when using AVG
Solution:
Untimely end of Scandisk/Defrag running can be prevented if you run it with a /TIME parameter (e.g. if you want to do a scandisk of C:\ drive, run program from command line by following command: scandisk c: /time).
If you want to set it permanently, you have to set a "ScanTimeOut" value to “On” in SCANDISK.INI file (ScanTimeOut=On). The file is usually available in C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND folder.
In any case of system freezing/failure, caused by a Scandisk/Defrag with AVG Resident Shield together, it is necessary to disable “Onclose scanning” in AVG Control Center -> AVG Resident Shield settings (temporarily).
However it is highly recommended by Microsoft to shut down all residently running application before you start Scandisk or defragmentation tools.
